"Scarred Canvas" Cover: Sneak Peek

To the left is a sneak peek at the cover of my new collection to be published by Underground Voices, "Scarred Canvas".

The artwork is by South African painter, Cecilia Ferreira.

I think it fits perfect with the poetry in "Scarred Canvas", and the overall tone of the collection. I am very impressed with the professionalism and care Underground Voices has been taking with this collection of new & reassessed poems.

B Movie

being a typical junkie
& an atypical hack writer

my metaphors
are often slammed
imprecisely,
left to bleed & fester
across the brittle skin
of this bruised page

but these track marks
are not odes to the hip
or belt notches
for the pretentious orgy
that has become
this literary small press
circle jerk

these lines are
gang signs
to my fellow inmates
caught in the soft
trick of light
that binds the innocent
to these drug riddled
& whore infected
barrio streets

but in the end
a cliche is just
a poor man's metaphor
& I sure as fuck
didn't come here
to slam dance
like a punk rock Jester
before all you
kings & Queens

I suffer no delusions
of Noble Prizes
or even an Oscar
for this suicidal
car crash
that splatters a bloody
Rorschach stain
upon your happy
mid-american
white-washed world

I am content
living out
the poorly penned script
of this B movie
while all you
poet laureate wanna-be's
& experts
fuck yourselves blindly
to the distorted soundtrack
of my drive-in movie
